On Today’s Gospel. Feast of Saint Andrew, apostle

Matthew 4:18-22

Today Father Leo explained something that i had never thought of before.

In the readings, most of us think that when Jesus called Andrew and Peter (who were brothers) to Follow Him, they both did becuase they knew it was Jesus right?

Well, not exactly.A little background on Andrew, he was actually a disciple of John the Baptist! John the Baptist being the one who announced the coming of Christ, knew that Jesus would come one day and tell him to follow!

So when JEsus came and said “Come after me” Andrew knew it was the Messiah speaking and followed!

Here is the twist. We all know Peter was impulsive, in action and in words. He was the kind of guy that would make others face palm and smh all day errday!

So when Peter saw his brother, Andrew, get up and follow Jesus, he did as well! Its one of those cases of , “well if my bro is going then im going.” Have ya ever had one of those moments? Or maybe one of these; “You’re not going? Okay neither am i.”

It was because Andrew followed Jesus that Peter did as well!

It was because of Andrew’s faith that Simon, who’s name was changed to Peter,  converted and followed Jesus!

It was because of Andrew’s faith that we, the Cahtolic Church, got our first Pope!

So here is my challenge to all, wouldn’t it be great to be that one brother (or sister) who brought others to christ by our actions?  Or better yet, why aren’t we?!

So lets all make sure that we dont just SAY we love Chirst, but trully act on it! and i promise that if we trully do, others will follow! =]

Father Shane Johnson is truly on his way to Sainthood. He has laid his life down for Christ, the church, and all His people through the priesthood. He provides hope to all, answering every question of the hundreds he gets flooded with. I’m sure through the internet (a wonderful way of evangelizing and affirming faiths) and in the real world, he has changed and saved many lives. He provides so much wisdom, he tells skeptics what the truth is behind the all the misconceptions of our faith. He reaches out to not just Catholics, but people of ever faith and belief- even atheists and agnostics. God bless him, and pray for him and those whom he reaches the hearts of! Thank you, Father Shane!

We love you, Father Shane!

approximately-infinity:

I just spent 2 hours making this. I am truly a Catholic nerd.

Key:

  • red = martyr
  • blue = died of natural causes
  • purple = Sts. James the Just and James the Son of Zebidee. (Same person??)
  • green = possible death locations for St. Simon the Zealot

so leggit! xD

It is not enough to simply KNOW God.

i know about baseball, does that make me an MLB player?

of course not.

So knowing God or knowing about his is never enough.

We need to immerse ourselves in him and follow his teachings!

Follow him and love him!

cus even Satan knows God, so it is not enough!

On Today’s Readings

i havent done this in a  while. Wrtten bout the readins but here we go.

The reading i wanna focus on today is the First reading. If you haven’t read it yet, HERE it is.

It talks about how Jephthah asked God to deliver his enemies to him and he would offer the first person to greet him when he came back home victorious. Well, God did. The Ammonites were defeated and Jephthah was victorious!

Upon his return home, it was his one and only daughter who greeted him, “playing the tambourines and dancing.”

“Alas, daughter, you have struck me down
and brought calamity upon me.
For I have made a vow to the LORD and I cannot retract.”

Jephthah was struck with sadness knowing that He needed to keep up with his end of the deal. He needed to offer up his daughter to God. And he didnt want to. He had neither son nor daughter other then her . But he still did as he had promised and offered her up to God. A great sacrifice.

The point i wanted to focus on is that how many times do we tell God, “Lord if you___, then i promise to____”?

How oftern do we tell God we are going to do something but don’t come through?!

Our Lord is faithful to his word and never goes back on int but we do it so often! As much as it hurts to, if we make a promise to God, SPECIALLY after he granted us one of our heart’s desires, then we CANNOT turn back on that word!

So brothers and sisters, let us meditate on this. Let us ask our selves…”Have i kept my promises to God?!”

Be Blessed!

When I Became a Man

the Holy Spirit has been warning me
that imprisonment and hardships await me.
Yet I consider life of no importance to me,
if only I may finish my course
and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus,
to bear witness to the Gospel of God’s grace.
Acts 20:23-24
Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived
when each of you will be scattered to his own home…
In the world you will have trouble,
but take courage, I have conquered the world
John 16:32-33
